Citizens Preserving History is working to move Merle Haggard’s childhood “Boxcar” home to Pioneer Village at the
Kern County Museum.

Merle was born in 1937 in Bakersfield, California, to James and Flossie Haggard.  He grew up in Oildale in a Santa Fe Railroad boxcar which his father had converted into their family home.  Merle's  music career also began in Bakersfield, and over the years his music has gained worldwide recognition.

With your generous donation, you can be a part of this historical preservation to honor Merle Haggard by moving and restoring his childhood "boxcar" home to the Kern County Museum.

Haggard Father's Day Photo Contest

Debi Creighton is the winner of $100
and an autographed print of Merle Haggard!

Congratulations to Debi Creighton of Onyx, CA for submitting the winning photo for the Haggard Father's Day Photo Contest.  This photo was taken of he and his three young sons several years ago.  Lillian Haggard Rae, the contest judge, said it was difficult choosing the winner, bu there was something about this photo.  She said, "Now there's a real father taking time to read to his children."  After choosing the winner and upon closer examination of the photo, Lillian realized he was reading from the bible.
Next Event:  Family Picnic & Dance
